ANDREW
& CO - A HISTORY.
In
1832 Sir Walter Scott died and Lewis Carroll was born. Russia
annexed Poland (again) and Parliament passed the first Reform
Act. Meanwhile in Lincoln a young newly qualified solicitor
was setting up a lawyers' practice in Silver Street. As the
practice flourished so did William Andrew's participation
in local affairs. He served on Lincoln City Council, was involved
in matters of public health and even found time to become
a founder member of an insurance company and a building society.
Frederick
Andrew took over the practice from his father until he passed
to the next world in 1916.
1927
proved an eventful year for the practice, by then run by Edward Midgley,
with an amalgamation with Race Hill & Co.
Russell
Race had started his practice in 1909 in the Cornhill in Lincoln.
Frank Hill joined him in 1923 as an articled clerk or trainee
solicitor in the modern terminology, only to find himself,
on the sudden death of Russell Race, in charge of a considerable
practice while still in his early twenties.
One
of his first moves was a significant one, the establishment
of the practice in our present office building in St Swithin's
Square in 1929.
Frank
Hill went on to become a famous son of Lincoln notable as
Sir Francis Hill, for his histories of the City and his services
to Lincoln and the wider community in many spheres.
1948
saw Philip Race and Edward Mason become partners in the practice. Both
had a long association with Andrew & Co. For many years Philip Race
served as a member of the Law Society Council with some distinction.
As the years have passed new Partners have been admitted and some longserving
partners have retired. The present partnership stands at twelve.

In 2007 the
firm celebrates its 175th anniversary, marked by a series of events.
There's no resting
on our laurels though, as of 1 April 2007 the firm has converted
to a limited liability partnership and will now be known as Andrew
& Co LLP.

One
factor in our history is significant. Andrew & Co has
been fortunate in having many hardworking and loyal members
of staff. We feel that William Andrew would have been proud
of them and proud too of the firm's many years of service
to the community. It is with the same pride that we will continue
to represent Andrew & Co.

PHILOSOPHY
Our
aim is quite simply to provide the very best service we possibly
can. Our clients say that accessibility, efficiency and value
for money are the three elements of the service which are
the most important. We are dedicated to meeting those expectations.
Our
duty of confidentiality applies to everything you tell us. Whilst our
speciality as solicitors is to provide legal advice, we do also try
to produce practical solutions to problems. Our service is independent.
We are not employed by anyone and we act totally in your best interests.
If, at any time, we recognise that there is a conflict between your
interests and those of another client then we are bound by professional
rules to tell you so and advise that you seek advice elsewhere.
We
have a continuing programme of training for all our staff, not only
on developments in the law but also on client care. Behind the scenes
we have the latest equipment and technology and staff skilled in its
use. Whatever means of communication suits you, we have it. Clients
are given the direct line to the person looking after them. Most of
the developments are as a result of observations from clients, so if
you have a suggestion how we can serve you better, please tell us!
We
value our relationships with clients and welcome their comments
about the services which we offer and the firm generally.
Over the years consideration of such comments has played a
valuable part in the further development of Andrew & Co.
