I joined Andrew & Co in November 2017 as an Apprentice Administration Assistant studying Business Administration Standard at Level 3. As soon as I had interviewed for the position I knew that Andrew & Co was the place for me. From day one all of my colleagues were incredibly supportive and I felt as though they were truly invested in my professional development.

I had been looking into apprenticeships having left university after a year and a half of study, as I didn't feel it was the right place for me at that time.

I saw the position at Andrew & Co was available and was immediately interested in working at such an established and well-respected firm. The long history of the firm combined with their emphasis on innovative forward-thinking really appealed to me.

My key day-to-day role is working on Reception at our Newark office. I really enjoy meeting our clients and getting to know them – everyday is different.

Besides working on the Reception desk, I feel I have had the freedom to make the role my own. There have been so many opportunities to explore the different areas of the business. I have provided administrative support to some of our legal teams, including the Private Client, Family Law and Residential Property teams, and I have also been able to get involved with some business development which I found really engaging.

Among the many things I have achieved while at Andrew & Co I have helped organise corporate events, including the firm's Annual Clay Pigeon Shoot, drafted correspondence and court orders, and implemented a new postage system, saving the firm money as a result.

At times the learning curve has been quite steep but everyone here at Andrew & Co has been so supportive and patient whilst I have been learning, which has made everything feel so much easier. I have met and worked alongside many different people and this has increased my confidence and boosted my communication skills; now I feel comfortable to talk with anyone, from vulnerable clients to the most senior members of staff.

As well as support from the firm I have also received a great deal of support from my Apprenticeship Training Officer, Mary at LAGAT College.

Mary has been an excellent teacher when it comes to the knowledge and skills that I need for the assessed side of my apprenticeship, the Business Administration Standard. I am now in the final stages of preparing for my end-point assessment and feel ready to complete my qualification.

Offering support to the legal teams at Andrew & Co has really piqued my interest in the law. I have particularly enjoyed supporting the Residential Property and Family Law teams.

Andrew & Co have been more than encouraging of my future plans.  When I complete my apprenticeship next month I now plan to pursue a career in law.

If my experience at Andrew & Co is reflective of apprenticeships in general, I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone. I sincerely feel that this has jump started my career and I am looking forward to what the future holds for me.
